This piece started off as a reflection of my experiences as a native New Orleanian and survivor of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This piece is somewhat of a reflection of home for me; namely, what becomes home when the physical structure of a house is gone? How can people or objects, images and music then become home for someone? The umbrella, to me, can represent protection or a barrier, relief or added weight.
